Although born in Colorado, Darren Choate has lived in Arizona for over 40 years. Growing up in the White Mountains of eastern Arizona provided the stage for him to become a hunter and ethical sportsman. After graduating high school, Choate served his country as an airman in the US Air Force for four years. For most of his tour, he was stationed at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska. After an honorable discharge, he returned to Arizona to attend Northern Arizona University, where he earned a Bachelors of Environmental Science and a Masters of Educational Technology. He and his wife have two grown sons, and the happily married couple resides in Arizona.
Choate is the founder and editorial director of Western Whitetail. Over his career, he spent time as the editor of consumer titles such as Whitetail Journal, Bowhunting World, Predator Xtreme, and B2B titles Hunting retailer and Archery Business with Grand View Outdoors. He is a voting member and supporter of the Professional Outdoor Media Association (POMA). Additionally, Choate advocates for and supports several sportsmen’s organizations. He has a passion for hunting and enjoys writing about his experiences. His articles have been featured online and in magazines such as Bowhunting World, Whitetail Journal, Predator Xtreme, Western Hunter, Quality Whitetails, Cabela’s Outfitter Journal, Fur-Fish-Game, and Rocky Mountain Game & Fish Magazine.
